Reminders For Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to share a meal with your loved ones and express your gratitude. But remember: this holiday, centralized around foods and meals, can raise anxiety amongst approximately 30 million Americans (NIMH).

If you are feeling anxious:

  • Remember gratitude is the focus of this holiday celebration, so remind yourself what you are grateful for

  • surround yourself with loved ones who are aware of your struggles and will be there to support you

  • Don't be afraid to identify your limits and make them known

  • What you eat does not dictate your worth -- whether you eat more or less, you are still the beautiful individual and worthy of the same things you were before today

  • Don't let what you do today dictate your behavior tomorrow -- what you eat doesn't dictate who you are, there are so many brilliant qualities about you that you should be grateful for!

  • Don't compare yourself to others -- you are amazing as you are.

Dos and Donts

  • DO enjoy the time with your loved ones

  • DONT comment about someone's weight or appearance

  • DO be grateful for the year you've had and for the amount of food on the table

  • DONT focus on criticizing someone, whether their actions or appearance


It could be that individuals at the table are fearing certain foods or perhaps bingeing. Regardless of their worries, note that everyone's presence at the table is a big, noteworthy step. This holiday focuses on food which may be the epitome of all that is amazing in the world for some and challenging for others.
