Holiday Stories

During the holiday season, Public Health PHC has accumulated short paragraphs from club members to remember what we all love about this time of the year.

We hope to inspire you all to remember to express gratitude. Write a few things you are grateful and reminisce on some positive memories! That being said, remember you don’t have to always be happy during this time of the year. Your emotions are validated, and it is understandable that you can’t always focus on the positive memories. However, we hope this may bring a little joy to your end of year countdown!

"One thing that me and my family always do and go out and cut down a tree for Christmas. This year, however, was extra fun. We went up to New Jersey to a farm we go to every year. While driving around to find the perfect tree, suddenly the car stopped moving. We had become stuck in the mud! While trying to get it out, my brother got soaked in mud. Though this was unexpected, it was hilarious. After eventually getting out, we found the perfect tree, which the next day we decorated with lights and ornaments (my favorite is our clown ornament that my sister tries to hide every year because she hates it. But I always find it). This holiday season may be different than the past ones with covid still around, but I know it will still be a good one. I hope you all have a very happy holiday and great break!"

"My favorite thing to do around the holidays is decorate with my family. It’s such a joy watching Christmas movies while hanging ornaments on the tree or baking cookies, and I look forward to it each and every year ❄️❤️"

“My favorite thing about the holidays is getting to spend time with my family and my cousins. It’s tradition to go over to my grandma’s house for Christmas; we’ll prepare a huge dinner, play board games, open gifts, and watch movies together with hot chocolate and snacks.”

“My favorite things to do around the holidays are baking, listening to Christmas music, watching Christmas movies, and setting up the tree. Doing all of these things with my family is, to me, what makes the Holiday season so enjoyable.”

"Every December, I look forward to the thousands of cookies I will bake with my family. Ever since I could remember, the dining room table is covered with tins of cookies, from chocolate chip to biscotti. It is a Christmas tradition to sample all of these cookies on Christmas Eve after we open the family gifts. And, of course, cookies are always good to snack on."

"Fun fact, my family and I have had our wreath up all year long. As a matter of fact, we were going to take it down in the summer, but then realized, what’s the point in taking it down if we are going to put it back up so soon! This humor and festive spirit joyfully carries me through the holidays with my family. My mom goes all out and spends most of her time decorating — especially the outside. My sister and I watch Christmas movies. As for my dad, we’ll call him a floater, either making up new ideas like ginger bread houses, sleeping, dressing up as Santa, or watching movies with us. This may sound hectic, but this is what makes our holidays unique and fun. No plan, just relaxing and spending it with each other. And I have to say — we are all still waiting on the snow!"
